HPES seeks to reduce the negative impact of language barriers on the health of immigrants and refugees in the St. Louis metropolitan region by providing language interpreting and cultural training to HPES medical staff, medical volunteers, ad hoc interpreters and collaborators. The Bridging the Gap project (BTG) will provide Volunteer Orientation Training for all volunteer physicians, staff and volunteer nurses, bi-lingual volunteers, and medical and nursing students.
Bridging the Gap Training (For Interpreters): This course which spans 40 hours and a certificate of training. This foundation course prepares bilingual individuals to work as medical interpreters in varied health care careers, especially in hospital and clinic settings. Multiple guest speakers will include a medical doctor, a registered nurse, and a social worker.
